Paul F. Jannke

Paul is a Principal at FEA, the premier source for North American wood products analysis and information. In this capacity, he develops and implements the company’s business and operational strategies.

His true professional passion lies in analyzing North American lumber markets. With more than 30 years’ experience studying lumber markets and providing reliable, insightful forecasts, he has become the industry’s top economic analyst.

Paul is the author of FEA’s Monthly Lumber Advisor and Lumber Quarterly Forecast Service publications—the industry’s leading sources for forecasts and analysis of North American lumber markets. He is also the co-author of FEA’s Global Softwood Log & Lumber Service and regularly contributes to various other publications.

Paul devised the concept for FEA’s PricePulse, North America’s first transaction-based price report for wood products, and oversees the platform’s strategic direction. He is responsible for advancing industry adoption and developing partnerships with North America’s leading wood products suppliers.

Paul has co-authored numerous studies on the international lumber, timber, bioenergy, and panel industries, and has presented at many international conferences on markets for lumber, engineered wood products, and structural panels.

Before co-founding FEA in 2009, Paul was Senior Vice President of Wood Products and Timber at RISI Inc. In this role, he was responsible for RISI’s complete portfolio of wood products and timber information, including newsletters, forecasts, commentaries, analytical research, data, and cost benchmarking. Paul was a key player in RISI’s strategic development, with responsibility for expanding the company’s geographic and product coverage, including developing RISI’s timberland and bioenergy information, international plantation database, transaction price service, and GIS capabilities.

Prior to his work at RISI, Paul was a research economist at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden, specializing in econometric modeling.

Paul is an avid hockey player, cyclist, sailor, and surfer. He lives in Acton, Massachusetts, with his wife, Julie; they have two children, Helen and Sam. Paul holds a master’s degree in economics from Boston University and bachelor’s degrees in economics and German from the University of Connecticut.
