Frequently Asked Questions
PricePulse
PricePulse is updated each nonholiday week according to the publishing calendar. The regular nonholiday week release schedule is as follows:
- Monday updates include data-only updates in the Data Center, covering full-week prices from Monday through Friday of the preceding week.
- Wednesday updates are published by 7:00 a.m. ET and include the Wednesday print PDF, Data Center update, and API update.
- Friday updates are published by 7:00 a.m. ET and include the Friday print PDF, Data Center update, and API update.
The PricePulse dataset expands regularly. For a detailed breakdown of current coverage, visit the products and regions page.
- Participating companies enter order data into their ERP systems as part of their normal business processes for accounting, storing, managing, analyzing, and interpreting their own data.
- Participants issue reports from their ERP systems, which are set up to run automatically every day.
- Transaction data is delivered to a secure database on a dedicated server and mapped to FEA price codes.
- A weighted-average price is calculated from all participants’ transactions for each reported product/grade.
- The weighted-average price then is pulled from the database for publication in PDFs, the Data Center, and through the API.
For additional questions regarding the PricePulse methodology, please contact Brendon Puffer, Database Operations Manager, at bpuffer@getfea.com.
PricePulse does not include contract prices. Published prices are based on open-market transactions only.
FEA requires data suppliers to provide all open-market transactions daily, directly from their ERP systems. These systems are used for tax, accounting, and business records.
PricePulse also uses an outlier-detection process to flag suspicious transactions for review.
Freight data is provided by many of the same data suppliers that provide FOB and delivered transaction prices. Like other PricePulse data, freight prices are based on actual reported transactions.
Composite prices are indexes built from multiple individually reported prices. They are designed to provide a broader read on market direction by combining several related price series into a single measure.
Yes. At least one year of historical data is currently available, with some price series extending back to 2023.
FEA expects to expand historical coverage later this year, with the goal of providing full history back to 1990 for all prices.
PricePulse history is available in the Data Center and through the API.
Current historical data comes from participating data suppliers. As PricePulse expands its historical coverage, additional history will be published using available supplier transactions, other price reporting available to FEA, and statistical analysis.
PricePulse history is available in the Data Center and through the API.
Dashes indicate prices that are not currently reported. These generally fall into two categories: prices that are expected to be added soon, and prices that are included in the table matrix for consistency but are not planned for publication.
For questions about a specific price, contact feedback@getfea.com.
PricePulse is built from actual transaction data, so coverage continues to expand regularly as additional reliable data becomes available and we complete our onboarding and verification processes.
If you do not see a price you are looking for, please contact feedback@getfea.com. The PricePulse team can help determine whether the price is already in development and planned for publication, or whether additional data suppliers are needed before it can be reported.
Wood Markets Status & Trends (WMST)
The weekly commentary (WMST) is kept separate from PricePulse to maintain a clear distinction between price reporting and market commentary, consistent with antitrust guidance to help protect the industry.
Separating analysis from price reporting also allows WMST to provide a broader and deeper level of coverage across FEA’s major subject areas, including macroeconomics, housing, trade, policy, capacity, lumber, panels, timber, engineered wood products, and related markets.
WMST is released early afternoon each Thursday and reflects PricePulse’s Wednesday prices.
